YOU CAN LISTEN to KYKD ONLINE HERE!!

Welcome to the webpage for KYKD Radio, serving the Bethel and immediately surrounding Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta villages! KYKD is also heard via translator (repeater) stations in the villages of Hooper Bay, about 150 miles west of Bethel, in Quinhagak, about 75 miles south of Bethel, in Kalskag, about 75 miles northeast of Bethel, and in Aniak, about 100 miles upstream on the Kuskokwim River.  The last of these four stations came on the air in August of 2014, fulfilling a long-sought goal of using KYKD as the primary station for a group of translator stations serving the broader region.  In the summer of 2017 there was an opportunity to expand that group when the FCC granted a request to relocate a translator license owned by the Chignik Radio Association from Chignik Bay to the village of Togiak located on Bristol Bay about 150 miles southeast of Bethel. A new station was built at the new church in Togiak in August of 2017 which rebroadcasts KYKD to the villages of Togiak and Twin Hills. Four years later in 2021 the FCC approved a request to move a Voice for Christ Ministries' license from Ambler to Noorvik, a native village on the Kobuk River about 500 miles north of Bethel.  In September of that year KYKD built new translator station in that community in northwestern Alaska.  Thus, KYKD can now be heard over a total of seven different transmitters. The programming and format of the station is oriented to the major culture of the Kuskokwim Delta, that of the Yup'ik people, who have inhabited the Yukon and Kuskokwim Delta region for thousands of years.  The native culture of Noorvik, however, is that of the Inupiat people, a distinct but related people group.  It is our desire that KYKD would be effective in bringing the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people within this vast listening area and thereby bring glory to God and advance His kingdom.

In 2018 KYKD had the unexpected opportunity to participate in the establishment of a new radio station serving the village of Scammon Bay, a coastal village about 150 miles northwest of Bethel.  KSCM is a Class D non-commercial station broadcasting at 94.3 MHz in the FM band, providing 24/7 Christian programming.  The station is owned by VisionAlaska, a small non-profit Christian organization which is operating the station in cooperation with Voice for Christ Ministries and the Scammon Bay Evangelical Covenant Church where the transmitter and antenna are located.   In 2021 KYKD again partnered with VisionAlaska to build a similar station, KGSM, in the village of Saint Marys along the Yukon River about 100 miles north of Bethel.  The transmitter and antenna are hosted at Faith Baptist Church in Saint Marys.  The studio for KSCM and KGSM is located in the same building with KYKD in Bethel and the programming stream sent via internet to the respective villages.  KYKD is pleased to participate in these partnerships to bring Christian radio to other villages in western Alaska.
